Freezing Rain!

Tuesday January 17 turned out to be a bad afternoon and evening for driving. As predicted, the weather turned nasty with a ice storm. I was driving the Handi Trans bus and had to make a trip up to Claremount in north Pickering. The posted speed limit on most roads is 80 km. I decided that I was going to drive below the limit. I felt comfortable at 60 km. There sure were a lot of cars that pulled out to pass me. The roads were icy but they insisted at speeding. One of my passengers was Derrick. He lives on the 16 Sideline which is a dirt road. When I turned onto the 16 th I realized the road was pure ice. I slowed down to a crawl. After dropping him off I made my way safely back to the garage. Of all of the driving conditions, I hate freezing the most.

Back To Work

Today is the day that I return to work. I have been off work on vacation for the last two weeks. I took the time off to be with family and friends over the Christmas Holidays. When I started my vacation I was working for the Ajax Pickering Transit Authority. (APTA) On January 1, 2006 Durham Region took over all of the public transit in Durham. I now work for Durham Region Transit (DRT).
Today I start work at 10:40 A.M. and will be working on the Flag Bus for about three hours. I will then complete my shift on Specialized Services. Everyone that worked at APTA is hoping that things will be much better now that we have a new employer. I'm wishing that this will be a much better year in Durham for transit.
